General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney Joins The Annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout
The Shangri-La Hotel
After recently arriving back home in Muswellbrook after staying in a few days in warm tropical Cairns, I realised how cold it is in winter in our part of the world. Compared to those who have no home and have to sleep on the streets, I am lucky. I can turn up the heating on the cold winter nights and be comfortable. The annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout is held each year to raise awareness and funds for the homeless.
The Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney will participate in the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday, 21 June 2012. Franz Donhauser, the general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney, will lead by example when he experiences what it is like to be homeless for one night.
More than 100,000 Australians find themselves homeless every night. Each year, an increasing number of Australia's leading CEOs sleep out in support of the St Vincent de Paul Society's services for the homeless. This year, events will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, Launceston and Darwin, and Mr. Donhauser joins leaders from other top companies around Australia.
With the support of Tourism Accommodation Australia, Mr. Donhauser is encouraging other leaders in the hospitality industry to support the event and help raise funding for homeless people in Australia.
"We are honoured to support this cause and I personally would like to call on all Australians to take action and get involved. As providers of some of the best luxury accommodation in Sydney, I feel it is important we remain committed to giving back to the communities that are less fortunate," said Mr. Donhauser.
This year's event will focus on raising awareness of homelessness in Australia and promote the concept that by investing in someone's future, CEOs can truly make a difference. The 2012 Vinnies CEO Sleepout aims to raise A$5 million in funds along with Mr. Donhauser's fundraising goal of A$5,000.
All money raised through the sponsorship of participants goes directly towards the ongoing provision of St Vincent's services for the homeless across the country.
