The 5 Lands Walk - The Awakening Ceremony

The 5 Lands Walk Awakening Morning
The 5 Lands Walk is a popular community event that takes place each year on the Central Coast of NSW Australia. A week before this Walk the Awakening Ceremony will be held. This will start before dawn on Saturday 16 June, at the Broken Head Reserve, adjacent to the Skillion at Terrigal, on the Central Coast

This moving event combines Aboriginal spirituality with that of other cultures on the Central Coast and welcomes the coming of the longer days of spring and summer

Awakening Morning - The Program

6:00am. - The Awakening.
The Guardian of the Message Stick arrives and Hands the 5 Lands Walk Message to President of 5 Lands Walk. The Message will be read by Gavi Duncan in Darkinjung language. The African community will respond in an African languagem and the. President of 5 Lands Walk, Con Ryan, will respond in English language.

6:15am - Welcome to Country Smoking Ceremony:
Welcome all African People to Darkinjung Country. Everyone will be invited to join in the Ceremony

6:45am - Story of the Morning Star.
Story of the Morning Star. Phil Bligh of the Aboriginal community will explain the significance of Morning Star. An African story will be presented by a member of the African community

6:50am - The Dedication.
Respects will be paid to Mother Earth.  Elements: Earth, Water and Fire. The significance of the Land Art creation will be explained by the Aboriginal and African artists who created it. There will be an offering of gifts between the Aboriginal and African communities, followed by 1 minute Silence facing the rising sun. Everyone is invited back to Haven Seafood Restaurant to partake in bread and wine.

7:15am - The Gathering.
Here everyone will partake in bread and wine and share food at the Haven Seafood Restaurant. There will be song, dance, and storytelling. Everyone is invited to bring a plate of food to share at the Haven Seafood Restaurant.
