Splash Out and Celebrate Songkran Festival

The Songkran Festival
The Songkran Festival, also known as the "water splashing festival", marks the beginning of a new solar year and the summer season in Thailand. It is Thailand's most celebrated festival, kicking off to a splashing start on 13th April and culminating in all its glory on 15th April 2012. In Khao Lak, where The Sarojin is located, visitors will see the main event being celebrated over the course of the first day - offering a full day frenzy of religious blessings, fun-filled water fights and a carnival atmosphere with dancers, drums and colourful processions.

Luxury boutique resort, The Sarojin, has launched new packages to help guests celebrate Thailand's most popular festival, Songkran, which marks the beginning of Thai New Year.

This April, guests staying at the five-star hotel can immerse themselves in ancient Thai customs and traditions that have been observed through the centuries... and join the locals in getting absolutely soaking wet as part of all the fun and frolics!

On 13th April, guests of The Sarojin can celebrate the Songkran Festival in style with the following new experiences:

Glimpse of Local Temple Life
The Songkran Festival
Kick start the day with a morning sunrise visit to a nearby Thai temple to join the locals as they receive a special Songkran blessing from traditional monks. Do as the locals do and offer food and alms to the monks, before watching young people pour fragrant water into their elders' palms as a religious gesture to ask for their blessings. This special experience offers a unique glimpse of local temple life and is steeped in tradition; at this time, young and old dress in new attire to honour the religious belief that new clothing brings good luck. Price: THB 200 (approximately A$200) per person

Cultural Insight in Takuapa
Step back in time and tour various Chinese and Thai temples, the fascinating old town streets and mesmerising Chinese and Sino-Portuguese architecture from prosperity past, during a cultural tour of Takuapa Old Town - the historic capital town of the Pha Nga province which rests along the banks of the Takuapa River. Watch as devout Buddhists pour fragrant water over Buddha statues in a ritual cleansing, before the fun really starts on the streets of Takuapa... with the first Songkran water fight of the day!
Price: THB 500 (approximately A$15.50) per person

Songkran at The Sarojin
The Songkran Festival
Share Songkran good wishes with The Sarojin staff during the annual Songkran water fight on the resort's secluded 11km stretch of white sand beach. All guests are invited to join in and arm themselves with buckets and spray guns in a bid to get everyone as wet as possible, as part of a public spring cleaning to wash away the old year and bring in the New Year. As well as being awash with religious significance, the afternoon water throwing is very high-spirited and, since it falls at the hottest time of year, it is also highly refreshing.
Price: Complimentary

Taking place in a spectacular garden setting, visitors can expect a lively carnival atmosphere with dramatic long drum processions, traditional live music, lantern releasing and plenty of entertainment as they dine on delicious local cuisine from the north, northeastern, central and southern regions of Thailand... a delightful way to celebrate - and honour - the first day of Songkran.
