Macau Popular with Australian Visitors
Macau has become a popular holiday destination for Australians with the regions tourism board expecting the trend to increase in 2012.
In the first quarter of 2012 the number of Australians visiting the region increased by over 15 percent year on year according to the Macau Government Tourist Office. Recent statistics reveal that for the month of March, Australian visitors to Macau increased from 8343 in 2011 to 9994 this year, an increase of almost 20 percent.Additionally, already 31,731 Australians have visited Macau this year compared with 27,537 visitors during the same period in 2011. Overall, Internationally Macau has welcomed a record 28 million visitors.
Macau Government Tourist Office for Australia and New Zealand general manager Helen Wong attributes the growth to new attractions, new world class entertainment and shopping centres plus the quality international hotels.
“Couple these features with a solid marketing plan in Australia and a healthy Australian dollar and we can look forward to even better times ahead,” Ms Wong said. “There’s little doubt such promotions as last year’s Macau Festival in Sydney’s Darling Harbour helped to not only bring awareness of Macau to Australians but to also highlight its many star attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage sites as well as the new additions.”
