Free NYC Map Smartphone App Launched
NYC & Company, the City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced its partnership with local start-up firm CityMaps by launching a free, co-branded smartphone app available for download on iTunes. NYC Map is a comprehensive digital tool that allows users to navigate New York City using easy-to-recognize names and visual POIs (logos) and to customize their experience with filtered content from nearly 90,000 hotels, restaurants, bars, stores and attractions. New York City is currently the only destination in the U.S. to have a co-branded mobile app with CityMaps.

“Our partnership with CityMaps has allowed us to create a product that benefits New Yorkers, international and domestic travelers and local businesses across the five boroughs all at the same time,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “NYC Map’s use of widely recognized logos, symbols and brands is particularly helpful for our non-native English speakers looking to get around the City. By aligning ourselves with this forward-thinking technology, we’re able to better engage locals and visitors, as well as support New York City’s vibrant digital sector.”

“We designed CityMaps to help tourists and locals navigate New York City visually and using the social web,” said CityMaps co-founder and CEO Elliot Cohen. “As native New Yorkers, we are thrilled to launch the NYC Map mobile app with NYC & Company. Our map helps people find their way around, discover the hidden gems of New York and find all the information about the City on the web in one destination.”

NYC Map’s comprehensive technology acts as a retail platform for local companies—big and small—to increase consumer awareness and amplify their messaging in a streamlined way, ultimately serving as the resource for information about New York City on the go. In addition to visually outlining the geography of businesses throughout the five boroughs, NYC Map highlights daily deals from sites like Groupon, Living Social, Restaurants.com and nycgo.com. Its interactive features include reservation-booking capabilities via OpenTable; movie theater listings and ticket purchasing via Fandango; MTA transit information; parking locations and rates; and its social components include real-time tweets from surrounding businesses and foursquare check-ins and user photos.

Starting today, NYC Map will be promoted throughout the five boroughs via taxi cab screens, bus shelters, video screens in Times Square, social media and nycgo.com.
